Summary:

This position holds responsibility for the success of the Diesel Technology and Heavy Equipment programs. This instructor must ensure that a positive, upbeat, diversified, interesting, and active learning environment occurs in both classrooms and labs, giving the students relevant and worthwhile experiences daily. The responsibilities include planning, organizing, and implementing an effective instructional training program in a professional learning environment that guides, encourages, and enables students to develop into industry professionals.

Dixie Tech is a public technical college located on a state-of-the-art campus in St. George, Utah. The College has 30 Council on Occupational Education-accredited programs that offer certifications in high-demand, high-pay professions.

This is a full-time teaching position with a salary between $75,000 and $80,000 per year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction & Curriculum

• Develop, update, and deliver syllabi, curriculum, lesson plans, and hands-on lab experiences aligned with industry standards and current technology
• Establish clear course objectives and competencies; ensure syllabi align with module sign-offs in Northstar
• Maintain a structured, safe, professional classroom/lab environment prepared daily for instruction
• Assign and grade coursework in a timely manner; structure courses in Canvas
• Design, coordinate, and assess work-based learning experiences; bring in industry professionals for specialized instruction
• Stay current on industry trends and adjust curriculum accordingly

Student Success & Compliance

• Observe, evaluate, and document student performance and behavior; provide feedback and involve Student Services as needed
• Support student retention, completion, licensure, and job placement; keep records current and accurate in Northstar
• Meet or exceed performance metrics set by COE and the VP of Instruction
• Maintain confidentiality and FERPA compliance; ensure equal treatment of all students and staff, reporting violations to HR or Student Services
• Partner with admissions and recruiters to fill cohorts; help develop admissions standards that support student success

Accreditation & Program Compliance

• Ensure the program meets COE accreditation standards, including Employee Verification forms and industry partner documentation
• Support biannual Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) meetings, maintain OAC communication, and implement committee decisions
• Document and submit Standard 2 evidence per COE guidelines and deadlines
• Uphold all College, local, state, and federal safety and policy requirements

Program Leadership & Development

• Recruit, train, and support adjunct instructors; collaborate actively with the program director and instructional team
• Build and maintain industry partnerships to support student employment outcomes
• Assist the program director with budget oversight and maintain inventory of instructional supplies and equipment
• Pursue ongoing professional development and continuously improve teaching skills and technical knowledge
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in industry
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Associate degree or Industry-Recognized Certificates
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google Suite applications
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 25 pounds or less; requires manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the heavy equipment industry
• Bachelor's degree
• Teaching/training experience
• ASE Certification
• Contacts with local industry
